Elite DB has Tide among his favorites
After failing to sign a true cornerback in last year's recruiting class, the University of Alabama is looking to make that position a priority this year and has its sights set on Tallahassee, Fla., defensive back Travis Blanks.
Blanks, considered one of the nation's best in the secondary, already has over 30 offers but considers Alabama to be one of his top schools.
It's a good program," Blanks said. "They always have winning seasons every year. Of course, they have got Nick Saban, one of the best coaches. That would be great for me because he's already coached in the league, so being ready for the league wouldn't even be a question with Saban. I'd be learning from one of the best."
In addition to Alabama, Blanks listed Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and USC as the other schools who were recruiting him the hardest at this point.
As a Tallahassee native, there's no doubt that Florida State will also be among his favorite schools, and there may also be some pressure for him to go there.
"A lot of people want me to go there and a lot of people think I'm going to go there, so there's pressure on me," Blanks said. "I just tell everybody that my options are always open until I make that decision to narrow it down."
Blanks plans to narrow his list down sometime over the summer.
The talented defensive back played both cornerback and safety for North Florida Christian School last year but said that Alabama likes him as a cornerback.
"Nick Saban wants me at cornerback," Blanks said. "I prefer corner because that's just where I'm comfortable at. I started their my 9th grade year. That was my first high school position, and that's where I want to play at."
As a junior, Blanks finished with 104 tackles and four interceptions. He also caught 35 passes for 453 yards at wide receiver.
The 2012 U.S. Army All-American is in the process of trying to set up a visit to Tuscaloosa this spring.
