DeAndre Wise chimes in on offer from the Black Knights
DeAndre Wise who weighed in at the UAB football camp at 6-foot-2, 280 pounds just picked up a surprise offer, which has caused the prospect out of Alpharetta (Ga.) Alpharetta High School to reevaluate is recruiting status.
"I offers from Texas Southern, South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Alabama State, but I just picked up an offer from Army," shares an elated Wise, who stepped away from the conclusion of his team workout to discuss his recruiting with GoBlackKnights.com.
"Coach Holmes called me and offered ... I was very surprised. It came out the blue. I was just sitting at home and he called me. Honestly, I didn't know a thing about the service academy. He took out to discuss West Point, the opportunities that go alone with attending there and of course the football program."
Upon receiving his offer from the Black Knights, Wise pointed out that the first person he spoke to was his father.
"When I got my offer and set down with my dad," he adds. "He told me this is something we really have to think about because you don't get an opportunity like this everyday ... especially when you talk about it being Army. And yes, this is something that I am really going to think about. Army is one of my top schools right now. My top schools are UAB and Army, but Army is real high."
Wise's primary position at Alpharetta is center and he indicated that is the role that Army is recruiting him for.
"That's where Coach Holmes said I could probably end up playing, because I'm a great size center and as you know they run the option offense ... I come off the ball real good and I'm explosive." shared Wise, who, along with his teammates, are working hard to prepare for the 2012 season.
"I did a couple of camps, but mostly training with my team," he declared. "We just started practice on Wednesday. Our team looks real good .... we have our whole offense returning."
This is an Alpharetta that finished 9-2, but lost in the first round of the playoffs. But there is plenty of firepower returning, which has the makings of another playoff and perhaps title run.
Looking up and down the roster you have tons of talent, with some who have already gave their college football pledge. There is DE Naim Mustafaa (Georgia); QB Joshua Dobbs (Arizona State); WR Carlos Burse (Vanderbilt); Blake Rowlinson (Troy) and a few others like Wise who are still in review and/or decision mode.
According to Wise, UAB may not be too far away from offering the offensive line prospect, but one thing for certain, he wants to make his way up to see the Army football program up close. "Coach Holmes and I talked about me visiting. We are trying to set that up, sometime in January or sooner," says Wise. "I don't yet and I'm also trying to set up other visits."
GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Wise throughout his senior campaign.
