Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said second-string sophomore safety T.J. Gurley wasn't all the way back from an injury to where he was last year but that he would play Thursday. He's listed behind junior Kadetrix "J.J." Marcus, who also missed time earlier this fall to injury, at the strong safety spot.
Ward said he likes the leadership shown by Chaz Sutton and expects a big year from him.
Ward said the plan is to let the young linebackers play through mistakes against North Carolina as they get much-needed experience. Marquis Roberts (Will) and Kaiwan Lewis (Mike) are set to start at the position.
Coach Steve Spurrier said he was excited the game was a sellout, but wasn't very happy with his receiving corps, noting they still drop too many passes.
Bruce Ellington remains doubtful for Thursday, as does Rory Anderson. Jerell Adams has been practicing, but is still a bit gimpy after missing time last week with a twisted ankle.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseys Tuesday were Ellington (hamstring), Anderson (hamstring), Carlton Heard (hamstring), Devin Washington (concussion), Gerald Turner (ankle sprain), Cedrick Cooper (dislocated left elbow), James King (right foot) Cody Gibson (knee), Mike Matulis (shoulder) and Kyle Morini (dislocated elbow).
UP NEXT: South Carolina will have a walk-through tomorrow in advance of Thursday's game with no media availability.
