South Carolina practiced Wednesday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.
Steve Spurrier said the secondary had an extremely good practice Wednesday, intercepting several balls from quaterbacks Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson. He even went so far as to day that the best-looking quarterback at practice was Brendan Nosovitch.
Spurrier went out of his way to praise the effort and intensity of Bruce Ellington, noting that coming off a career-high in receptions (eight) against Vanderbilt, Ellington still was giving maximum effort all the time and that he wished he had a team full of Ellingtons.
For his part, Ellington said it felt great to back 100 percent and healthy after missing time in the preseason with a hamstring injury that slowed his progress going into the season opener. Ellington also praised Shaw for his work ethic and leaderhip.
Ellington also said he would be moving back to kickoff returns. He said he switched to punt returns only because Victor Hampton was injured, but now that Hampton is back, he'll rejoin the kickoff return team that committed a key fumble (Shon Carson) in his absence against Vanderbilt.
Running backs coach Everette Sands said he's been extremely pleased with Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds when it comes to their willingness to split carries and perform well when called upon, not just running but also in pass protection and receiving the ball.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseys Wednesday were Cody Waldrop, Kelcy Quarles, Carlton Heard (hamstring), Devin Washington (concussion), James King and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
UP NEXT: South Carolina will practice tomorrow afternoon then will be off Friday through Sunday.
