South Carolina practiced Thursday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.
Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said the priority for Saturday was taking the run away from Central Florida as it is each week, noting that he's been impressed with the film he's seen on UCF quarterback Blake Bortles.
Ward confirmed that Jadeveon Clowney and Chaz Sutton were healthy and that there weren't any unexpected injuries to report. He said the bye week was exactly what the defense needed.
Ward said Devin Washington is still battling back from his concussion-related symptoms and wears sunglasses in the daylight due to issues that causes him.
Ward said Cedrick Cooper will see action this weekend against UCF but that he wouldn't start. He'll play weakside linebacker, where he has spent the most time in practice despite recently cross-training at middle linebacker, behind starter Marcquis Roberts.
Ward finished by saying he fully expects UCF to utilize the Wildcat formation against the Gamecocks after having success with it against Penn State as well as seeing Vanderbilt utilize it effectively.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseys Thursday were Devin Washington (concussion) and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
UP NEXT: South Carolina leaves tomorrow afternoon for Orlando and plays UCF on Saturday.
