ORLANDO - In this feature, Gamecock Central awards game balls to deserving players from tonight's game.
Mike Davis. On an afternoon when his running mate Brandon Wilds and quarterback Connor Shaw both went down with injuries on a fumble, the sure-handed Davis was the game's star, especially in the second half.
Victor Hampton. This is NOT for his punt returning, it should be noted, but for his big second-quarter interception that stymied a UCF drive that, had it let to a touchdown, would have put the Gamecocks in a 17-0 hole heading into halftime. Instead, the Gamecocks were able to flip the field and keep the score 10-0.
Dylan Thompson. After struggling early in relief of Shaw, Thompson settled down and, thanks to hand-offs to Mike Davis, capably led the Gamecocks with big completions along to way to Bruce Ellington and Damiere Byrd.
Jimmy Legree. For the second game in a row, Legree had a big interception to kill an opponent's drive, this time coming with the Gamecocks leading 14-10 and UCF driving.
Gerald Dixon. His stripping of the football from Blake Bortles after Bortle's fourth-quarter fumble led to Davis' third touchdown run of the game and a 28-10 lead.
Tyler Hull. After three games in which he ranked last in the SEC, Hull had a fine game punting the ball in Orlando, punting three times for 141 yards for an average of 47 yards.
