Quick practice recap
South Carolina practiced Tuesday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.
While one injured player mysteriously returned to practice healed - quarterback Connor Shaw - another mysteriously appeared - tight endRody "Busta" Anderson. Anderson was out of practice with a back issue, USC spokesperson Steve Fink said. No indication was provided as to the extent of the injury, but he appeared to be running around fine, so it could be a precautionary measure. Offensive coaches will be available Wednesday.
Also joining Anderson on the injury list were two known injuries from the Central Florida game - Brandon Wilds (elbow) and Cody Waldrop (ankle).
Defensive line coach Deke Adams said Jadeveon Clowney is playing fine and has just missed plays that could have made his statistics look better than they do right now. He also said the amount of plays he influences where teams run away from him is incredible. Adams also said that Kelcy Quarles would admit himself he isn't having the kind of season he'd hoped to have and looks for him to improve.
Adams agreed with Clowney's assessment that the defensive line bears some responsibility for the long pass plays UCF used to get back in the game on Saturday, noting that if the line could have generated more pressure, those plays may not have happened.
Defensive backs coach Grady Brown said his unit's main goal this week has been improving its focus. He said if guys can focus in the first quarter, they can focus in the fourth quarter and that there was no excuse for giving up the long touchdowns the secondary did. He said Steve Spurrier expressed his disappointment to him, but that he was no more disappointed than he himself (Brown) was.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseys Tuesday were Waldrop (ankle), Anderson (back)Devin Washington (concussion) and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
