No. 14 South Carolina practiced Thursday afternoon and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.
Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward announced that from an injury front, the defense welcomed Gerald Dixon Jr. back to practice Thursday and that he could contribute on Saturday.
Ward said the defense's primary focus in practice has been on stopping Mississippi State sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott, a running and passing threat who he said is a lot like Connor Shaw, only bigger.
Ward said the Bulldogs create the illusion that they're a running-first team because the quarterback keeps the ball so much in the zone-read offense, but that they're an excellent passing team, in part because of the success of the run.
Ward said he thinks his defense has progressed tremendously from North Carolina until now in terms of alignment, communication and execution of assignments.
INJURY REPORT: Missing practice or in yellow jerseys Thursday were Cody Waldrop (ankle), Devin Washington (concussion) and Mike Matulis (shoulder).
UP NEXT: South Carolina will conduct a walk-through tomorrow afternoon before facing Mississippi State at noon.
