Chad Holbrook revealed after Tuesday's 10-0 win over Ball State that Friday-night starter Jordan Montgomery has a stress reaction in his left (throwing) arm. He will be shut down for the next two weeks, meaning he'll miss this weekend's series hosting Rider and the SEC opener at Missouri. He could be ready by the Arkansas series, but most likely not, since he'll be re-evaluated at that time.

The injury is not a stress fracture. Montgomery has had it for a couple of weeks and pitched through it. It is a "lower distal stress reaction," as termed by an X-ray and MRI. The injury doesn't bother him when he pitches, but it's very painful during his rehabilitation work and rest.

The injury means that Colby Holmes is being bumped to the Friday starter and Nolan Belcher will be moved to Saturday. The Sunday spot is up for grabs; since Jack Wynkoop pitched on Tuesday, he is unlikely for this weekend, but perhaps next week, the coaches may move him into the rotation.
