BC gives ATH his first offer
Boston College recently became the first school to verbally offer Jacquille Veii, one of the top athletes from the state of Maryland. Veii is on several other recruiting boards so the Eagles are hoping they can make a strong early impression.
It looks like they'll get their shot.
Veii, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete from Gaithersburg (Md.) The Avalon School, has run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and carries a 3.0 grade point average.
He's visiting West Virginia on Thursday. After that he's hoping to visit Duke and BC.
"I'm going to try to get to those two over spring break," he said.
Rachid Ibrahim, one of Veii's teammates, will also likely make the trip to BC. The Eagles have offered him as well.
Daron Roberts is the assistant coach from West Virginia that has been handling their recruitment of Veii.
"We haev a pretty good, solid relationship," Veii said of the Mountaineers' assistant. "He breaks it down and we have some fun when we talk to each other."
What are Veii's thoughts on BC?
"Even though I haven't met Coach Washington yet in person he seems like a great guy. He's really hyped up about me and Rachid. He's just really a great guy and I like him a lot.
"I know it's a private Catholic school and that's really all I know at this point. Athletically they do pretty solid in the ACC. Not too great, but solid."
What about Duke?
"I haven't been in contact with Coach Roper lately but I'm trying to," he said. "They've got great facilities and it's in a great area. They're not too hot when it comes to football but they're trying to correct that."
So far Veii has visited UVa, Virginia Tech and Maryland. He told EagleAction.com that he doesn't have any favorites.
Last Wednesday Boston College became the first school to offer him. He's hoping to take his time with the process.
"I don't want to make an extremely late decision. I'd want to make it by the middle or end of football season," he said.
"Really I'm mainly high on academics. Second, I like a secluded campus, like a college town. I'm not too big on city campuses. I'm also really into tradition and fan base. If I make a big play I want the whole place to go crazy."
