London closing in on decision?

One of the top running back prospects in the nation for the class of 2014 is Madre London of St. Thomas Aquinas High school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This past weekend the 6-foot-1, 202-pound prospect was in East Lansing to learn more about the Michigan State University. SpartanMag.com has the details.

Michigan State is looking to add another elite running back prospect to the class of 2014 and London is one of the top player so the board. Rivals.com ranks London a 3-star prospect and the #94 player in Florida for the class of 2014. He holds over 20 scholarship offers from programs such as Michigan State, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
This past weekend London took an official visit to Michigan State. He has already visited Wisconsin and Nebraska. We asked London about his thoughts on his time in East Lansing.

"What stood out to me was the strong tradition they," London stated. "Michigan State is a good school and they have a winning program. I also liked the people I was able to meet, everyone was very nice. My host was McGarrett Kings; we had a lot of fun."

Kings is also from the same area as London so he was able to give him a good idea about the transition that a player has to make coming from South Florida to the Big Ten.

London has had plenty of contact with the Michigan State staff via social media and other electronic media, but this weekend allowed him an opportunity to sit down with them and build additional rapport. He was also able to speak with Head Coach Mark Dantonio.

"Coach Dantonio was very straightforward with me," London stated. "He told me that they like me a lot and explained how I can fit in and help the program. He stated they want to run the ball a lot and I can be an important part of that."

Having visited three of the top programs in the Big Ten, London has seen a lot of things that are attractive to a player with his ability. We asked him if he has some aspects that he has been looking for in each program that will aid him in ultimately making his college choice and when he plans on making his decision.

"The things that will help me make my decision are a winning program, good academics, an honest coaching staff and a good fan base," London said. "I am planning on making my decision after I come back from my next visit. I am head to the University of Illinois this coming weekend."

One interesting aspect about London's recruitment is the fact that this is not the first time the Spartans and Badgers have gone head to head for a running back from St. Thomas Aquinas. Back in 2010 the Badgers beat out Michigan State for Aquinas running back James White. The loss of White caused the Spartans to turn their focus toward another running back named LeVeon Bell. The Spartans are hoping they win the battle this time and London can be as productive as the current Pittsburgh Steeler.

Matt Dorsey's Take: This one is a tough one to call. London has a lot of good options on the table and all of the schools involved would love to see his name on the commitment list. London has stated that the depth chart is something he is considering. The Spartans may have a slightly more crowded group on that aspect, but as of right now the position is being manned by a committee due to no single player assuming the role. In a perfect world, Coach Dantonio would like to have a feature running back that can carry the load and put up impressive numbers.
