Our own Herbie awards

CINCINNATI - The Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge was a great opportunity to scout numerous top prospects in one setting. It was a combination of the big names like Ryan Mallett and Willy Korn but it was also an opportunity to see some surprises as well as a glimpse ahead to 2008.

Here are my awards for the event. Keep in mind, I was in Cincinnati Friday and Saturday so I did not see the following teams.....Springdale, Ark., Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward, Massillon (Ohio) Massillon Washington, Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton, Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's and Hilliard (Ohio) Hilliard Davidson.

Most Impressive Player - I'm going with Willy Korn for a few different reasons. He played against a very tough, fired up team that pressured him constantly, he showed the ability to lead his team from behind and he showed he doesn't rattle easily when getting knocked around. Ryan Mallett was impressive as well but he didn't feel pressure all day from Findlay and safety Eugene Clifford is very impressive, but Cardinal O'Hard didn't go after him much. Korn struggled at times but he fought through it and led his team. Runner Up: Mallett
