USC offers top N.C. junior

Charlotte (N.C.) Independence safety DeVonte Holloman is the early favorite to be named the No. 1 junior in the Tar Heel State's class of 2009, and he has the offer list to back it up.

"(North) Carolina, NC State, Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina have offered me," the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Holloman said. "South Carolina and Tennessee are my most recent offers."

Holloman, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, is looking forward to learning more about the Gamecocks.

"I've got a teammate down there (Jason Barnes), and he likes it down there," he said. "I know they have Steve Spurrier coaching them now, and I know they're in the SEC. The SEC is top notch football with a lot of speed and great defenses, and that fits my style. I want to see them in person at some point."

Holloman, who bench presses 270 pounds, grew up with a clear childhood favorite.
