Theus to debut in re-start of S.C. Pro Am
After a brief hiatus, the S.C. Pro Am resumes today.
The event, showcasing basketball players who have played (or are playing) high school and college basketball in South Carolina, will pick up where it left off. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, the Pro Am will feature four games that will show off a number of current USC players.
Sophomore Austin Constable is set to play in the first game, against a squad featuring former Gamecock Dominique Archie. Senior Brenton Williams and freshman Demetrius Henry team up to play against sophomore Brian Steele in the evening's second game. Freshman Sindarius Thornwell and junior Ty Johnson are on the same team and will play against freshman Jaylen Shaw at approximately 7:30 p.m., and freshman Reggie Theus will play against former Gamecocks Sam Muldrow and R.J. Slawson in the nightcap.
Theus will be making his Pro Am (and college) debut after enrolling at USC for the Summer II session. From California, Theus' high school didn't end in time for him to enroll in Summer I, so he came for the second session. Fellow freshman Duane Notice also enrolled for Summer II after helping Team Canada play in some international competitions during June, but won't be playing in the Pro Am, at least, not right away.
Notice has a concussion and will be out for a bit but is expected to play in the Pro Am once he recovers. Fellow freshmen Desmond Ringer and Justin McKie have dealt with ankle injuries during the summer, but should be recovered to play on Sunday, when the Pro Am continues.
Some of the recruits that USC is keeping an eye on (notably class of 2014 commitment Marcus Stroman and prospects P.J. Dozier and Seventh Woods) will not play tonight and most likely won't on Sunday. They're scattered among various AAU tournaments around Aiken and Augusta, Ga.
