Quick practice recap

No. 8 South Carolina practiced Tuesday afternoon at the Bluff Road Proving Grounds, and Gamecock Central was there. A complete practice report with video will follow shortly.

The highlights:

Defensive backs coach Grady Brown says he was very disappointed that sophomore cornerback Ahmad Christian decided to transfer, but that he was never told why. Brown said redshirt freshman Rico McWilliams will see more playing time in the Capital One Bowl in Christian's place.

Redshirt junior cornerback Victor Hampton says he is working himself into better shape for the Capital One Bowl than he's been in any other game of his career. Hampton said he wants to use the game to showcase his abilities to NFL teams before he begins preparing for the draft.

Hampton also said if his draft paperwork comes back and he isn't projected to be taken in the first or second rounds, he'll have to sit down and rethink whether he'll leave early or come back to South Carolina for his final season of eligibility.

Junior defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles says he is proud to see his name on several All-America lists, and that his postseason accolades are a testament to the amount of extra work he put in before and throughout this season. Quarles said practicing for and playing in the Capital One Bowl will be emotional for him, but that knowing he will be putting on a South Carolina uniform for the last time gives him additional motivation to keep working hard.

Junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney says he's feeling the best he's felt all season, but that he isn't as excited about the Capital One Bowl as some of his other teammates because he will miss playing at South Carolina. Based on what he's seen in practice, Clowney expects sophomore Gerald Dixon to start at defensive end next season.

Defensive line coach Deke Adams said his line's No. 1 priority each week is to stop the run, and that the Capital One Bowl will be no different, especially facing Wisconsin's pair of 1,000-yard rushers, Melvin Gordon and James White.

"They're both really good runners," Adams said of the Badgers' pair of tailbacks. "We've got our hands full."

UP NEXT: South Carolina will practice again Wednesday afternoon.
