Kershaw's Corner: Georgia

Here are your game notes for UGA from USC statistician Doug "Kershaw" Adams. Prepare like the pros prepare!

South Carolina-Georgia Series
* Georgia leads 52-48
* Georgia leads the overall series 31-15 in Athens.
* Georgia has won six of the last seven including the last three.
* Four of the last eight meetings have been decided by eight points or less.
* Georgia won last year's meeting in Athens 62-54 in overtime.
* The last three games in the series - 2013 UGA 62-54 (OT) in Athens, UGA 67-56 in Columbia and 2012 UGA 67-55 in Athens

South Carolina-Ole Miss Recap
* Ole Miss defeated the Gamecocks 75-74. This was the second consecutive game that was decided by one point.
* Seven of the last 11 have been decided by six points or less and the last three have been decided by four points or less.
* Sindarius Thornwell had 24 points and 11 rebounds. It was his first career double-double.
* Michael Carrera had six rebounds which are the most for him in a game since he pulled down seven against Akron on December 28, 2013.
* The 22 minutes for Carrera are the most minutes played in a game since he played 22 against Marshall on December 30, 2013. He played 20 minutes or less in the four games between Marshall and Ole Miss.
* Laimonas Chatkevicius scored 12 points tying his season high of 12 against Saint Mary's on December 22, 2013.
* Brenton Williams scored all nine of his points from the free throw line.
* Jaylen Shaw scored nine points. That is the most points scored by Shaw in a game since he totaled 13 at Oklahoma State on December 6, 2013.
* The starting five for the Gamecocks was Chatkevicius, Ringer, Thornwell, Williams, and Notice. It was the first start of the season for Chatkevicius and Ringer.
* In the 2013 game against Ole Miss, the Gamecocks hit three of their eight free throws. Saturday, USC hit 24 of their 36 shots. Carolina was 14 of 24 in the second half.
* USC had 40 rebounds in both the 2013 and 2014 meetings with Ole Miss. Carolina had 15 offensive rebounds in 2013 and 18 in 2014.
* Comparing the Points in the Paint - USC 32-28 in 2013 and USC 30-28 in 2014
* Comparing 2nd Chance Points - USC 14-9 in 2013 and USC 11-10 in 2014

Scoring on the Road
* The Gamecocks are 0-5 in true road games this season.
* The most points they scored on the road this season was 67 against Texas A&M.
* Carolina scored 64 against Baylor but the other three road contests, USC scored 58 points or less. (57 at Clemson, 52 at Oklahoma State, and 58 at Florida)

Last Two Opponents on the Road
*The Gamecocks last two opponents on the road were Florida and Texas A&M.
*Florida defeated the Gamecocks 74-58 while the Aggies defeated Carolina 75-67.
*Both Florida and A&M shot at least 55% from the floor. The Gators went 26 of 45 (.578) while the Aggies shot 22 of 40. (.550)
*Carolina turned the ball over 38 times in the last two games combined compared to 26 by the Aggies and Gators.

Turnovers
* Carolina has turned the ball over at least 17 times in the four SEC games this season.
* USC turned the ball over 21 at Florida, 19 vs. LSU, 17 at A&M and 21 vs. Ole Miss.

Rebounding
* Gamecocks have outrebounded three of their four SEC opponents this season.
* USC outrebounded Ole Miss 40-31, A&M 33-25, and Florida 28-25. LSU outrebounded the Gamecocks 42-32.
* 30 of the 73 rebounds in the last two games for the Gamecocks are on the offensive side of the glass.
* USC had 18 offensive boards against Ole Miss, 12 vs. A&M, 7 vs. LSU, and 9 vs. Florida.

Gamecock Player Notes

Brenton Williams
* Started the last eight games and has played in all 17 games this season.
* Attempted at least 10 shots from the field in four straight games.
* Scored nine points against Ole Miss on Saturday. All nine came from the free throw line. It was the first time in the last nine games that he was held under 10 points in a game.
* Played 30+ minutes in four of the last five games.
* Hit 48 of his 49 free throws this season and is 15 of 15 in the last two games played.

Michael Carrera
*Played 20 minutes in two of the last three games.
* Hit four of his six free throws against Ole Miss on Saturday. The four games prior to Ole Miss, he shot seven free throws.
* Posted 15 points and nine rebounds in the last two SEC contests compared to eight points and six rebounds in the first two SEC games of 2014.
* Nine of his 17 steals on the season have come in the last three games.

Laimonas Chatkevicius
* Made his first start of the season on Saturday against Ole Miss.
* Played 21 minutes against Ole Miss which tied his season high of 21 against Saint Mary's.
* In the last two games he is combined to go 10 of 13 from the field scoring 20 points.
* Played at least 10 minutes in three straight contests.
* Scored 12 points against Ole Miss which tied his season high of 12 against Saint Mary's.

Mindaugas Kacinas
* Started 16 of the 17 games this season. (Ole Miss)
* Played at least 10 minutes in all 17 games this season.
* Averaging 5.1 rebounds a game this season but averaging 2.8 against SEC opponents.

Demetrius Henry
* Started 16 of 17 games this season. (Ole Miss)
* Averaging 5.9 points per game this season but 2.0 against SEC opponents.
* Had a career high 11 rebounds against SC State but has pulled down five in the last four games.
* Struggling from the free throw line. Has not made a free throw since the Clemson game.

Justin McKie
* Played in nine games this season.
* Played in the last two games.
* Played a career high 11 minutes and scored a career high five points against the Aggies.
* Pulled down a career high four rebounds against Marshall on December 30, 2013.

Duane Notice
* Started the last 10 games and has 12 career starts.
* Combined to hit five of his last 12 shots in the last two games.
* Scored 12 of his 24 points in SEC contests against Texas A&M.
* Has nine assists to five rebounds in the last two games.
* Averaging 2.4 rebounds a game this season but has at least three rebounds in the last two games.

Desmond Ringer
* Played in all 17 games this season and made his first start of the season against Ole Miss.

* Hit two threes and three free throws to score nine points against Ole Miss in 24 minutes of action.

Sindarius Thornwell
* Started all 17 games this season.
* Scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds against Ole Miss. The Ole Miss game was his first career double-double.
* Scored in double figures in three of the last four games.
* In the last two home games, he is 16 of 29 from the field, 12 of 19 from the free throw line to score 49 points.
* In the last two road games, he is five of 12 from the field, three of five from the free throw line scoring 15 points.
* In the four SEC games, he has nine assists to 17 turnovers.

Georgia Head Coach Mark Fox
