Green is a Gamecock
For four-star cornerback Wesley Green, the recruiting process has come full circle.
The Lithonia (Ga.) Martin Luther King High defender originally committed to South Carolina back in June of 2013. He held that pledge until September, when he reopened the process.
The 5-foot-10, 168-pounder kept South Carolina under consideration along with (primarily) Ole Miss and Georgia. The Rebels fell off, leaving the in-state Bulldogs to battle South Carolina. Green made an official visit to Columbia during the weekend of January 17 (in which he publicly named USC his leader once again) and did not end up making a planned final visit to Athens the final weekend before signing day.
The Peach State product made his final commitment, again to USC, during a televised broadcast on signing day evening.
Green held over 20 major scholarship offers during his recruitment. He was recruited to USC by defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward and secondary coach Grady Brown.
"We loved every aspect of South Carolina," Green said on FoxSportsSouth during his televised announcement. "That's where I wanted to be. When I took that official on the seventeenth, that was the first time I had to bond with the other recruits."
Brown seemed to play a large role in the decision.
"Coach Brown, we developed a relationship a little late but still had a great connection. He coached one of my favorite cornerbacks, Patrick Peterson. We always talk about my grade. We're trying to start the new 'Legion of Boom'."
