Kershaw's Corner: Florida

South Carolina vs. Florida - The Series
* USC leads the overall series 42-35
* Florida has won six of the last seven in the series.
* Two of the three games in Gainesville last season were decided by one run. (3-2 on April 11 and 4-3 on April 12)
*USC's last win in the series was in 2012 when the Gamecocks defeated the Gators 7-3 in Omaha.
* Carolina's last win in a regular season series matchup was also in 2012 when USC won 9-3 in Columbia on March 22nd. Florida took the next two games to win the series. Florida also defeated the Gamecocks in Hoover that season.
* USC's last regular season series win against the Gators came in 2011. The Gamecocks took two of three from Florida in Gainesville. Carolina also swept the Gators in the 2011 Championship Series.

Gamecocks Losing on the Road
* Carolina is 2-4 on the road this season in SEC play. Carolina lost both series at Kentucky and at Arkansas.
* In 2013, USC lost their road series at Florida (swept) and Mississippi State (2 of 3).
* In 2012, the Gamecocks lost their road series at Kentucky (swept).
* In 2011, they lost their road series at Ole Miss (2 of 3).
* In 2010, they lost their road series at Kentucky (2 of 3).

Home Sweet Home
* The Gamecocks are 22-1 at Carolina Stadium this season including a 5-1 mark in SEC play.
* Since the stadium opened in 2009, the Gamecocks have an overall record of 177-33 at home.
* The most wins in a season at Carolina Stadium is 36 in 2011 followed by 32 in 2012.

Where Did the Offense Go?
Carolina plated nine runs on Tuesday against the Paladins. Prior to the Furman game, the Gamecocks scored five runs in the four previous games. USC was shutout on Saturday at Arkansas. It was the first time Carolina was shutout since the final game of the Missouri series on March 16, 2013. That game was in Columbia, Missouri.

In the three game series against Arkansas, the Gamecocks had 19 total bases. They had 18 total bases on Tuesday against Furman.

Stolen Bases
USC stole a season high three bases against Furman on Tuesday. The prior season high was two against Bucknell, Presbyterian, and Brown.

Grounding Into Double Plays
The Gamecocks have grounded into 19 double plays this season. They had four last weekend against Arkansas. Three of the four came in game two of the series.

Consecutive Games with An Error
Prior to the Furman game, the Gamecocks made at least one error in eight straight games.

17 of the 30 errors this season have been in SEC play.

USC had six in the Arkansas series, four versus Tennessee, four at Kentucky, and three versus Ole Miss.

The four errors against Kentucky were all in the first game of the series. USC had three of their six in the second game of the series against Arkansas.

The Gamecocks have lost five games this season. Three of those five games were lost by three runs or less. At least one run scored in four of those five games were unearned.

11 of South Carolina's 17 errors in SEC play came in the five losses.

Team ERA
The Gamecocks team ERA heading into the Florida series is 1.80. Only four pitchers have an ERA over 2.00 on the season. (Crowe 2.08, Wynkoop 2.49, Montgomery 3.83 and Vogel 6.75)

Extra Base Hits
The Gamecocks have allowed 37 (29 doubles, one triple, seven home runs) extra base hits this season. 31 of the 37 have been allowed by the weekend starters. Montgomery has allowed 14 (10 doubles and four homers), Wynkoop 10 (eight doubles and two homers), and Crowe seven. (7 doubles) Three of the remaining six were allowed by Vogel. (one double, one triple and one homer)

The Gamecock pitching staff has not allowed a home run since March 22nd at Kentucky.

The only triple of the season allowed came in the first game of the season against Bucknell.

The Gamecock offense has 74 extra base hits this season. They have 51 doubles, two triples, and 21 home runs.

Base on Balls
Carolina walked a season high seven batters in the final game of the series against Arkansas. The previous high was six in the first game against Clemson. The Gamecocks walked five on Tuesday at Furman.

Fast Games
The Gamecocks have played 32 games this season. Only six of the games took three hours or more to play. The longest game for the Gamecocks this season was the 14 inning game with Tennessee that was played in four hours and 11 minutes. The others that lasted more than three hours are Bucknell-1 3:20, Bucknell-2 3:02, Clemson-1 3:35, Clemson-2 3:18, and Ole Miss-1 3:10.

SEC Play After 12 Games
* Gamecocks are tied for first in the SEC East with Florida with a 7-5 record. Alabama has the best overall SEC record with an 8-4 mark.
* USC has scored 49 runs and allowed 49 runs.
* The teams ERA is 2.95 and opponents ERA is 3.02.
* 32 of the 49 runs allowed were in the five losses.
* Carolina has 22 extra base hits. They have allowed 22 extra base hits.
