Christian to USC
South Carolina's 2015 recruiting class continues to roll along, strengthening further on Thursday with the addition of Rivals250 athlete Jalen Christian.
Hours after telling GamecockCentral.com that USC was his strong leader and that he could announce "as soon as today" and no later than July, Christian got word out that he was planning a 2:00 p.m. announcement on Thursday during a pep rally at his school. During that event, the four-star made his pledge to South Carolina.
The 5-foot-10, 173-pounder is on Carolina's board as a wide receiver, and he was recruited to Columbia by assistant coach G.A. Mangus. Joined by his mother, Christian visited South Carolina last spring for three days which established the Gamecocks as a program with major staying power for his services.
"The community is football based, very active and involved with the team," Christian said yesterday as to why USC was his leader. "It just reminds me of Demascus. I met Coach Mangus freshman year, so our relationship has been going strong ever since freshman year. He was the first South Carolina coach that I met."
During the recruiting process, Christian earned a lengthy list of scholarship offers from some of the top programs in the country. Among the schools to extend an offer were Clemson, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Ranked as the eighteenth best prospect in the country in Rivals.com's athlete category, Christian checks in at number 192 on the 2015 Rivals250.
