Wingo returns to USC

Two-time national champion and 2011 CWS Most Valuable Player Scott Wingo will be the new student assistant coach for the University of South Carolina baseball team, USC has confirmed.

Wingo, who won titles in 2010 and 2011 as an All-SEC defensive performer at second base and remains a fan favorite, replaces former teammate Adrian Morales, who served in the position for 2014.

Like Morales, Wingo returns to finish a degree after having spent the past three years pursuing his baseball dreams in the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league system before being released on April 12. In four minor league seasons (2011-2014) with four different teams, Wingo hit .249 with 75 RBIs 10 home runs, 33 doubles and 13 triples.

An 11th Round draft pick, Wingo's best season came in 2012 when he played in 109 games and hit .246 with12 doubles, seven triples, 13 stolen bases and 33 RBIs. Playing second base, third base and the outfield, his combined minor-league fielding percentage was .967.
