Durant in the boat

USC picked up commitments from two of the nation's top junior college defensive prospects on Sunday morning. Former Greenwood High teammates Marquavius Lewis and Davon Durant both made pledges to return home and play for the Gamecocks.

Durant, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker, made an unofficial visit to USC over the weekend and committed at the conclusion of that visit.

The Upstate native claimed offers from Arizona State, Florida State, Georgia, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and others.

"I loved the people there and Coach Botkin is a heck of a coach," Durant told GamecockCentral.com after his commitment. "I want the best."

Botkin, who played a large role along with fellow assistant G.A. Mangus in recruiting Durant to USC, was excited to hear of Durant's pledge.

"He was happy and is ready to get me in," Durant said.

If Durant completes the necessary academic work, he will have three to play two at USC and could enroll in January 2015.
