Wharton, NJ - Running back Marcus Lattimore of Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes High was named the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 19.

Lattimore led his team to an 85-8 win over Dorchester (S.C.) Woodland High. He carried the ball eight times for 111 yards and three touchdowns. He also finished the game with two receptions for 41 yards and a score.

The 85-point outburst by the Rebels was the most scored in the history of Byrnes High School.

Lattimore is one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the state and has been nominated for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

"It's almost unfair to throw Marcus Lattimore on the field against most high school teams because he is so physical and powerful." Rivals.com analyst Barton Simmons said about the five-star player. "He's a North-South runner that is punishing with the ball in his hands but also has the speed to break the long run. Few high school running backs can step on a college campus physically ready to take on a FBS work load but Lattimore may be the exception."

Lattimore is the second resident from South Carolina in as many weeks named to the honor. Last week, Irmo's Mustafa Green won the award.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Player of the Week was designed to recognize the nation's top performance of the week.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the country, annually setting new attendance records every January at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The game, which features the best high school football players in the nation, has helped launch the careers of Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Adrian Peterson, Tim Tebow and many other college and NFL stars since the first game in 2001. The game also crowns the U.S. Army Player of the Year during Bowl Week in San Antonio.
