Anthony Rose jumps back in Gamecocks class

After a brief hiatus, Miami (Fla.) Miami Central High four-star defensive back Anthony Rose is back in South Carolina's recruiting class.

The Sunshine State prospect had originally pledged to Carolina in February, but backed away from the commitment in May. What made him jump back on board after this weekend's official visit?

Speaking with GamecockCentral.com on Sunday, Rose clarified that there was one missing piece to solidifying his status with South Carolina.

"I had decommitted because my granddad, he was in the blind," Rose explained. "Me and Coach Beamer and Coach Torrian Gray, we sat down and had a talk. They said to bring your family up there so they can see everything and feel comfortable."

That happened in the form of the official visit, as Rose's father and grandfather joined him in Columbia over the weekend.

"They loved it. They enjoyed themselves. I was already locked in, I needed them to lock in," said Rose.

A lengthy, athletic defensive back who could play safety or cornerback, Rose was recruited to Carolina by defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.

Said Rose: "He's the best. He's a great teacher, a great dude to talk to about anything."

All aspects of the weekend trip impressed the newest Gamecock pledge.

"Just everything. I loved it," Rose said. "Everything was great. Everything was perfect."

Rose also held Power 5 offers from Arizona, Georgia Tech, Indiana, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Tennessee.

Jaheim Bell served as Rose's player host during the weekend trip.

"Great mentor, cool dude," said Rose. "He's like an older brother to me."

The four-star prospect is ranked the No. 23 safety in the country and the No. 45 overall prospect in Florida for the 2022 class.

Rose broke down how he broke the news to Beamer that he was putting his name back on the commitment list.

"At the end of the official, we had a sit down with Coach Beamer," Rose began. "He looked at me and asked me if I was joining the family. I pointed at my granddaddy and said 'ask him.' He said 'yeah, he's going to be a Gamecock.'"
