Coach speak: MJ Webb
Morgan County head coach Bill Malone went on record with GamecockCentral.com to assess the strengths of South Carolina's newest commitment, four-star defensive lineman MJ Webb.
"He loves football," Malone explained. "That’s the one thing he’s wanted to do since he’s was old enough to know football was, was to play the sport. So he’s very dedicated to it. He can play defensive end, he can play defensive tackle, he’s had a heck of a fall camp for us at tight end. He can bring a lot to the field."
In addition to his substantial talents on the field, Malone raved about Webb off the field.
"As a person, it’s going to be real difficult to think back and come up with a kid who’s better than MJ as far as a personality that’s always happy , a kid who’s willing to help others, someone who’s a role model to countless kids back home in Morgan County. He’s just a great kid."

Malone was able to get a firsthand look at Will Muschamp and his staff's efforts that ultimately culminated in landing a pledge from his star pupil.
"Lance (Thompson) has done a fantastic job with communicating not only with MJ but with me as well. Throughout the whole process, it’s been more than I would expect. Coach Muschamp has done a good job as well keeping in touch with MJ, reaching out to him. We came up three or four months ago and had a great feeling from the time we stepped on campus. We have an even better feeling right now," Malone said shortly after Webb made his decision to commit to the Gamecocks.
Malone gave some thoughts on what makes Webb a top-notch prospect with a high chance of success in the SEC.
"MJ’s size is tremendous. His strength is very good," he said. "His hand technique needs work, but he’s worked on it now for the past couple years and it’s getting better really every day. He’s primarily an overpowering kind of kid."
