"It just felt like it was home to me," Cooperwood said. "I've enjoyed my time on the campus. I met all the coaches and players and I could tell it was a real family."
The 6-foot-8, 340-pound Cooperwood also held offers from East Carolina and Ohio.
"I think it was amazing the way the coaches treat me," Cooperwood added. "I like it at South Carolina and I like the atmosphere. The coaches and players show me love. The food was good. I was fun."
Cooperwood was recruited to the Gamecocks by special teams coach Joe Robinson and offensive line coach Shawn Elliott.
"I think he's a great coach," Cooperwood said of Elliott. "I want to get to know him even more, since we're getting closer and closer."
Cooperwood was on campus for the Gamecock Pool Bash on Friday and then took a tour of the school on Saturday.
