Current No. 24: D.J. Smith
A former four-star prospect, junior safety D.J. Smith should take on a greater role in his third season in Columbia and has worked with the first team at safety this fall.
Smith has played in 22 contests over the past two season, making a pair of starts, and has been credited with 33 career tackles.
The Marietta, Ga. native, who could also play some cornerback, figured to be a major contributor in the secondary this year.
Former No. 24: Sheldon Brown
Now a member of the USC Association of Lettermen Athletics Hall of Fame, Sheldon Brown played for the Gamecocks from 1998-2001 and is considered one of the program's all-time best cornerbacks.
A native of Fort Lawn, S.C., the Lewisville High graduate collected 203 career tackles and 10 interceptions at USC before going on to an 11-year NFL career.
Brown, a two-time All-America and All-SEC selection for the Gamecocks was drafted by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft.
