PREVIOUS COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF ENTRIES: 50 | 49 | 48

Texas Tech's 2016 football season will begin in exactly 47 days with a Sept. 3 kickoff against Stephen F. Austin.

Today, we continue our Countdown to Kickoff series with a look at a notable way the number 47 relates to Red Raider football.

47: Graham Harrell completed 47 passes in Texas Tech's 34-27 upset of No. 3 Oklahoma in 2007.

Texas Tech entered its 2007 matchup against No. 3 Oklahoma having dropped three of its last four games. The team's defense had begun to give up big numbers on the ground, the offense's run game all but disappeared and star quarterback Graham Harrell was mired in a bit of a slump, throwing nine interceptions over that four-week stretch.

The Red Raiders, eager to flip the momentum of their late-season swoon, desperately needed to upset the Sooners.

They got it.

Harrell completed 47 of his Big 12-record 72 pass attempts for 420 yards and scored three total touchdowns in Texas Tech's 34-27 win over OU.

Michael Crabtree (12 rec., 154 yards, TD) was magnificent as usual, Alex Trlica set an NCAA career record for PATs made (227) and Aaron Crawford accounted for a sneaky-important 128 yards from scrimmage. Ruffin McNeill's defense held the Sooners to just over 400 yards and its third-lowest yards per play average of the season.

The Red Raiders' win that November night marked the beginning of a 12-game winning streak at Jones Stadium that would run into the 2009 season.

Tomorrow: 46 - We look back at the most prolific sophomore season in Big 12 quarterback history.
