The Gamecock staff has its fourth verbal commitment of the 2013 class.
During an unofficial visit to South Carolina, Lithonia (Ga.) Arabia Mountain's Kight Dallas pledged to the USC coaching staff.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder received his first offer from the Gamecocks not too long ago and decided to end the process early today.
"It's not too far from home. It's in the SEC. I love the depth chart and the 4-2-5 defense," he said. "There's a chance to play early. My mom is happy and what makes her happy makes me happy."
For Carolina, defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward was responsible for Dallas' recruitment and was able to land his pledge earlier this afternoon.
"He showed me that they want me, so I went there because they want me," he explained. "I think he's a great coach. He showed me around, kept me updated about what goes on at South Carolina and how the defense works."
The Head Ball Coach spoke with the Peach State product and let him know he was happy that Dallas made the decision.
"I met Coach Spurrier. I told him I committed. He was excited. He went up to my mom and told my mom thanks. He wants to get us back down here for the spring game on April 14."
Future position coach Kirk Botkin also took some time to talk with the Georgia defender.
"I liked him. I sat in on the linebacker meeting they had before they went on the field," Dallas said. "He told us about the gameplan. He talked about what type of coach he is."
Dallas said that the Gamecocks are getting a prospect that enjoys playing hard every snap.
"I'm in on every play. I'm a team player. I play my position and trust my teammates. I'm a vocal leader on and off the field, and I love football."
Auburn, North Carolina, NC State, and Wake Forest were showing interest in Dallas at the time of his commitment. Other schools may get visits from him, but he said that he is a Gamecock.
"I might make a couple more visits. I don't know where yet, but I'm solid," he said. "I'm committed."
