What I Like: Whitfield boasts good technique for his age – a bit more advanced than most prospects I watch of the same position. Against the run, his quickness and footwork allow him to shoot gaps and disrupt plays at the point of attack. Whitfield’s array of hand moves and burst off the line of scrimmage also make him a solid pass rusher. He’s got the skill-set to play a number of spots along the defensive front, with his best potential as a 3-4 end – in my opinion.

Instant Impact? There are three main areas of Whitfield’s game that will help him compete for playing time this season: his advanced technique, understanding of leverage, and relentless motor. Whitfield’s combination of size and skillset make him a versatile defensive lineman who Coach Muschamp can plug into both his 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. With the Gamecocks lack of production along the defensive line, Whitfield should be given ample opportunities to compete for playing time in 2016.

Rivals rating: I agree with Whitfield’s Rivals rating, as it indicates he’s one of the top 300 prospects in the country and has pro potential.
