Lilburn (Georgia) Parkview offensive lineman Trey Derouen visited South Carolina officially from Friday until Sunday, and was originally planning on making a pair of visits to Kansas State and Florida to cap the recruiting process.

Instead, the 6-foot-3, 324-pounder decided to cancel those visits and made it known on Tuesday that he planned on turning around with an announcement the following day. The beneficiary was South Carolina, as the Gamecock staff scored its fifth commitment along the offensive line for the 2015 class.
Why was USC the pick for Derouen?
"First of all, the academics," he said. "They're one of the top in the SEC for APR rating."
Assistant G.A Mangus recruited Derouen for the Gamecocks along with offensive line coach Shawn Elliott. Both played a significant role in the decision.
"I love Coach Elliott, great coach. I got along with him very well," he said. "Coach Mangus is a great guy, great guy. He's down to earth, him and Coach Spurrier."
The trip last weekend to Columbia sealed the deal in Derouen's mind.
"When I went on the official visit, all the coaches and players, it felt like the right place for me," he explained. "I feel like next fall we're going to do something great."
Derouen, a former Mississippi State commitment, also drew offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Louisville, and Memphis.
The Peach State product is slated to start his career in Columbia as an offensive guard.
