Johnson signed his professional contract earlier today, and left-handed pitcher John Parke was also drafted by Chicago but has not signed a contract yet.

Destino came to South Carolina as one of the highest-rated two-way players in the 2014 class before finding his footing as a hitter and position player. He started as a freshman and would play left field and serve as the designated hitter.

His best year came in 2016, the year he and the Gamecocks reached the Super Regionals, when he hit .321 and led the team with 10 home runs and 59 RBI.

He would fluctuate in and out of the lineup his junior year, hitting just .255 but having 10 home runs, good for second on the team.

Destino was one of five current Gamecock players drafted. He was the only position player drafted with pitchers Johnson, Parke, Clarke Schmidt and Wil Crowe all getting their names called.
