As the recruiting process comes to a close, Conway (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Bryan Edwards finds himself torn between South Carolina and Clemson.
The one-time South Carolina commitment, who plans to enroll early at the school of his choice, took an official visit to Clemson last month and followed that up with an official to Carolina this weekend.
"Probably just hanging out with Coach (Will) Muschamp, hanging out with (host) Deebo (Samuel), just having a good time and just really enjoying myself and enjoying the process," Edwards described as the highlights of the trip.
One of Edwards' biggest questions has been how he would be used in the Carolina offense and he says new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper was able to describe that in detail.
"I got a great feel," Edwards said. "I sat down and talked with Coach Roper and Coach Muschamp. We just talked football and talked offense and stuff like that. I feel like I'm a versatile player who can fit in a lot of systems, so I'm real comfortable with the fit. (Roper) was just telling me it's obviously a high-tempo offense with a lot of moving around and stuff like that, taking advantage of defenses and finding mismatches."
The Carolina coaches received a bit of help on the trip from the recruiting efforts of quarterback commitment Brandon McIlwain who was also taking his official visit.
"I talked to Brandon a lot," Edwards said. "Everywhere I went, he was pretty much right beside me, to the left or to the right, so we had a good time together. We talked a lot."
Edwards, ranked the No. 20 "athlete" in the country by Rivals.com, is being recruited to play wide receiver by South Carolina and safety by Clemson.
"Wide receiver is what I like to do," Edwards said. "It's where I feel comfortable, but at the same time I'm not against playing on the other side of the ball, because I know I'm an athlete. I can do a lot of things on the field. Wide receiver is definitely where I feel comfortable."
With his January enrollment on the horizon, Edwards knows a final decision has to come soon.
"I would like to make a decision (Monday), but I don't know," Edwards said. "It just depends on how I feel."
What's important to him?
"Obviously, where I fit, not only on the field but off the field, as far as fitting in with the players, fitting in with the guys, and just feeling at home," Edwards says, "feeling this is where I want to spend my next four years as a player and as a student."
Edwards was asked if he already knows where he's going.
"To be honest, I don't know," Edwards said. "I've got to sit down and just think about it all, because these are two great schools, and they're both in-state. I know I won't make a bad choice going to either school, so it's been real tough for me. I've been trying to dodge some interviews, because I really don't even know what I want to do.'
