How does one stay loose with SEC Media Days and fall practice bearing down on them? Apparently, they get their guys together, and go fishing.
That's what second-year running backs coach Bobby Bentley did on Saturday. He and the running backs of the State's flagship university hit Lake Murray to reel in the State's fish, the striped bass.
Flanked by A.J. Turner and Rico Dowdle, on the left, and Mon Denson and Ty'Son Williams, on the right, Bentley and his boys took care of business, bringing in their share. For Williams and Denson, it was evidently their first catch, ever.
The running backs hope to have the same kind of luck on the football field in 2017. USC's rushers averaged just 134.4 yards per game on the ground, a mark that ranked 108th nationally and 13th in the 14-team SEC.
Gamecocks are led in the running-game by: returning sophomore Rico Dowdle, who had 764 yards and six touchdowns and returning sophomore A.J. Turner, who had 497 yards and three touchdowns.
They will also look to get help from returning sophomore Mon Denson, who sat out the 2016 with injury, and sophomore and UNC transfer Ty'Son Williams. Williams sat out 2016 due to transfer rules and could give the Gamecocks' running attack a boost.
Carolina will begin the season September 2 against NC State in Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium. That game will be televised on ESPN.
