Former walk-on Chandler Farrell placed on scholarship

There may be no better compliment to a walk-on player than for his head coach to place him on scholarship.

South Carolina redshirt sophomore Chandler Farrell received that honor this week when the center from Summerville (S.C.) was officially added to the scholarship list by head coach Will Muschamp.

"I told the team, you want to talk in terms of, we're a blue-collar organization and we talk about effort, we talk about toughness, we talk about discipline, we talk about team-first mentality and we talk about competing and earning what you get," Muschamp said. "And Chandler Farrell in two years has done those things to a T. He's the epitome of a guy who does those sort of things."

Farrell is currently the team's backup center, where he's been pushed by freshman Hank Manos.

Farrell's father Kenny, who played for Carolina and lettered from 1990-92, and mother DeeAnn were in Columbia for their son to receive the news.

"Certainly really proud of him," Muschamp said. "And it was great to have Kenny and DeeAnn here today."
