"I walked on to campus feeling like I wasn't even in college, it felt I was literally in a MLB complex. I decided to make my decision after talking to my parents about it and noticing there was no downs of South Carolina," he said in a message. "I have family living about an hour away, one thing that really stuck to me was I wanted to go to a school not only to win but to also develop as a player and as a person."
He recently visited campus and was impressed with the coaching staff, saying he feels confident in the coaching staff's ability to develop him as a player.
Boychuk is rated the No. 3 catcher in the class by PerfectGame and the No. 35 overall prospect in the class, and has also pitched for Team USA's 15U squad.
"I was very honored to know how much the coaching staff wanted me and knowing they were great guys and for sure would always be like family to me," he said. "I am looking forward to playing at South Carolina to play in front of the best crowd in the SEC and for sure one of the most competitive programs in college baseball."

He said his strengths as a player are being a vocal leader and being able to control the game. He'll arrive on campus for the 2021 season.
He's the first catcher committed in the 2020 class, and the fifth member overall. He joins Landon Lucas, Jalen Vasquez, Cade Austin and David Austin currently in the class.
The Gamecocks only have two catchers committed in the 2018 and 2019 classes combined.
"Very blessed to be a Gamecock," he said, "no place I would rather be!"
