Gamecocks in the pros: Numerous players promoted this week

The latest on former Gamecock players in the major and minor leagues.

MLB

Jackie Bradley Jr. went 7-for-26 (.269) with two doubles and two RBI for the Boston Red Sox. He's hitting .267 this season with a .340 on-base percentage.

Sam Dyson made two appearances in save situations, picking up one save and blowing the other. He gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts. Since joining the San Francisco Giants, he has six saves and a 2.99 ERA.

In just his second season with the Kansas Royals, Whit Merrifield went 11-for-31 (.355) with a home run and four RBI. He's hitting .299 in 86 major league games this season.

Jordan Montgomery made two starts for the New York Yankees, giving up five earned runs over 9.1 innings. He also struck out 11 and has a 7-6 record with a 4.15 ERA in his rookie year.

Steve Pearce went 5-for-24 (.208) with two doubles, two homers and eight RBI for the Blue Jays, including two walk-off grand slams this week. He's hitting .465 this month.

Still continuing his All-Star season, Justin Smoak went 8-for-25 (.320) and boasts a six-game hitting streak. He's hit two home runs and six RBI to go along with his .301 batting average this season.

Triple-A

Bryan Harper hasn't pitched this season for the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington) and is on the 60-day disabled list.

Peter Mooney went 7-for-22 (.318) for the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Miami) with a run and two RBI. He's hitting .217 this season.

Starting one game this week, Michael Roth pitched six scoreless innings by giving up three hits and striking out two. His ERA was lowered to 4.87 after the start with the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay).

Christian Walker hit .192 (5-for-26) this week for the Reno Aces (Arizona) with two homers and five RBI. He has a .304 average in Triple-A this year.

After being traded and assigned to the minors, Tyler Webb made three appearances for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Milwaukee). He gave up three earned runs in three innings while striking out four. He has a 9.00 ERA in five appearances with the Sky Sox.

Double-A

Grayson Greiner went 6-for-23 (.261) for the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit) with two runs scored, a homer and four RBI. He's gone .290 over his last 10 games.

Kyle Martin hit 6-for-22 (.272) with a home run and two RBI. In his first season with the Reading Fightin' Phils (Philadelphia) he has a .191 batting average.

Evan Marzilli went 2-for-14 (.143) with three runs scored. He's batting .253 this season for the Jackson Generals (Arizona).

In one start this week Joel Seddon gave up two earned runs in four innings. He struck out four and is 3-4 with a 4.70 ERA for the Midland RockHounds (Oakland).

Also with the RockHouds, Max Schrock went 6-for-24 (.250) with three runs scored.

Jack Wynkoop was put on the 7-day disabled list for the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado).

Single-A

Evan Beal was promoted to the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers (Miami) in the South Atlantic League. He's made one start since then, he's pitched one scoreless inning while striking out a batter.

Still on the 7-day disabled list, Gene Cone hasn't played for the Columbia Fireflies (Mets) since July 14.

Wil Crowe was promoted to the Short Season Auburn Doubledays (Washington). He's made one start, pitching three scoreless innings while striking out two.

Alex Destino went 7-for-16 (.438) for the AZL White Sox (White Sox) with two RBI and five runs scored. He's hitting .306 in his first professional season.

Tanner English went 4-for-28 (.143) with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored for the Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota).

After a stellar start in rookie ball, Tyler Johnson was promoted to the Single-A Kannapolis Intimidators (White Sox). He's made two appearances, pitching two scoreless innings while striking out four. He has a 0.75 ERA in 11 career appearances.

Marcus Mooney went 6-for-19 (.318) with three RBI for the Rome Braves (Atlanta). He's hitting .387 over his last 10 games.

Joey Pankake is hitless over his last 11 at-bats with one RBI. He's hitting .192 this season.

Also playing for the AZL White Sox (White Sox), John Parke started two games. He gave up two earned runs over 12 innings. He has a 2.93 ERA in his first eight appearances.

Dom Thompson-Williams went 2-for-17 (.118) for the Staten Island Yankees (Yankees) with two runs scored.

Matt Vogel made two appearances this week for the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay), giving up four runs on three hits. He's also struck out five.

Braden Webb remains on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' (Milwaukee) 7-day disabled list.

Making two starts for the Tampa Yankees (Yankees), Taylor Widener threw 9.2 innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits. He struck out eight batters.
