Gamecocks pick up highly-rated pitching prospect

South Carolina added one of the best left-handed pitchers in the country Monday night with Jackson Phipps committing to Mark Kingston and his staff.

Phipps is the No. 2 lefty in the 2020 class and is rated the 13th overall prospect by PerfectGame.

He visited campus for Wednesday's baseball scrimmage and toured the facilities then.

The commitment makes the second one over the last four days for Kingston. Shortstop in the 2019 class Braylen Wimmer announced on Thursday his commitment.

Phipps is the sixth member of the 2020 class and fourth to commit since Kingston took over.
