"I've been thinking about them for a while. They play in the SEC," Gentry said of South Carolina. "I've thought a lot about my decision, about taking this opportunity, and everybody was behind me 100 percent, so I went ahead and committed."
"I've been to South Carolina for a camp," he continued. "I went around the campus, I went on the field and went to the locker rooms. I liked it a lot. I like the coaches."

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Gentry chose the Gamecocks over offers from Louisiana Lafayette, Middle Tennessee State, South Carolina and Troy.
South Carolina linebackers coach Kirk Botkin was his recruiter of record.
"He has lots of excitement, he pretty much stays excited about everything," Gentry said. "All of the little things, he gets excited about. That's a pretty good thing. He's always positive and keeps people around him positive."
Gentry spoke to South Carolina interim head coach Shawn Elliott too when he committed.
"I really like Coach Elliott," Gentry said. "He seems like a great coach. I think he's running the program well and doing a really good job."
Gentry plans to be back on campus when the Gamecocks host Florida.
"My strength is quickness, chasing the ball down from behind," Gentry says. "I'm pretty good at making tackles way down the line."
He plans to sign with Carolina regardless of who Ray Tanner tabs as the Gamecocks' next coach.
"I think whoever they get as a head coach will be a good fit for everyone," Gentry said. "It will be whoever they think can best help the program out."
