Grading the Gamecocks: Georgia

Quarterback: C

Jake Bentley didn't get a lot of help with receivers and running backs dropping a handful of passes, but the junior was erratic in the first big test of the season. He threw a career-high 47 times and completed over 30 passes for just the second time in his career.

He threw two interceptions, a pick six on the first possession of the game and another on the goal line on what could have been a scoring drive. He also tried to force the ball into a few tight situations outside of the two interceptions.

Running back: D+

The Gamecocks ran for just 54 yards offensively, the fewest since rushing for 54 in a loss to Kentucky last year. It's the seventh time over the last 15 games that the Gamecocks haven't topped the century mark.

They struggled to find any consistency in the ground game. Ty'Son Williams led the team with 26 yards, averaging 4.3 per carry, but outside of him Gamecock backs combined for 28 yards on 14 carries.

Wide receivers/tight end: C+

If there was a bright spot for the Gamecock offense, it was the play of Bryan Edwards, who caught for 111 yards and a career-high two touchdowns.

Outside of a few drops, they caught for 282 yards with 11 different players all catching a pass. They also averaged over nine yards a reception.

Offensive line: D+

Will Muschamp said the Gamecocks got "whipped" up front on both lines of scrimmage and it showed in the Gamecock run game. They struggled to get a push against Georgia's front seven and there weren't a lot of big holes for backs to move through.

The bright spot was that Jake Bentley was only sacked once.

Defensive line: D

The defensive line couldn't get enough of a push to disrupt the Bulldogs' run game. Georgia rushed for 271 yards, and almost 170 of those came in the second half. The Dawgs averaged 5.2 yards per carry.

Linebackers: C+

With Georgia usually getting through the first level, the linebackers were able to rack up a lot of tackles. T.J. Brunson and Sherrod Greene combined for 11 tackles. The linebacker corps accounted for 1.5 of the Gamecocks' two sacks Saturday—Brunson had half a sack and Danny Fennell had one.

Secondary: D

Muschamp said there were a few breakdowns in the secondary, including one that resulted in a 34-yard touchdown catch to Mecole Hardman to start the second half. Hardman finished the game with 103 yards and a touchdown.

The secondary, after tackling well in space in the first half of the game, missed a lot of tackles on the perimeter after half-time.

Special teams: B+

It was a solid day for Parker White. All four of his kickoffs went for touchbacks, and he nailed his only field goal attempt of the game, a 26-yarder before halftime.

Joseph Charlton averaged 40.8 on five punts with a long of 53 and pinning one inside the 20-yard line. The only knock on the special teams unit was a bad punt from Charlton, going for 18 yards, and setting up a Georgia field goal drive.
