The 6-foot-6, 281-pound Camper took an official visit to the program last weekend and liked everything he saw. Camper spoke with GamecockCentral.com about his commitment on Friday.
"I got down there and I really just loved it," Camper said. "The facilities were really nice, they showed me everything that they were building. They're already starting construction on the new apartments and all that stuff. It's really, really nice. I really liked the coaches. They were straight with me from the moment I got there until the moment I left, and I really liked that. I liked how with (Steve) Spurrier, what you see is what you get. He's obviously one of the best coaches in the country. I thought it was a really good choice for me."

Camper, who was hosted on his visit by fellow offensive lineman Brock Stadnik, was recruited by offensive line coach Shawn Elliott.
"I like him a lot," Camper said. "He's obviously very straightforward. He's one of the best line coaches in the country. I liked him a lot because with him also, what you see is what you get. He's honest with you. When he came to Virginia Beach and we went to lunch, I connected with him and got to know him. I really liked him a lot. I ended up making my decision and I'm really to happy to be playing for him."
Camper also claimed offers from ECU, Louisville, Marshall, Maryland, N.C. State, Northwestern, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
Camper has a unique connection to the program in that his father, John Camper, played for Spurrier at Duke.
"It's going to be pretty cool," Camper said. "It was cool because when we got there, obviously, they already knew each other and I knew some stories that my dad had told me about him. They were all good stories, nothing bad. It was pretty cool just to get to see him and meet him and to know that I'm going to play for the same guy my dad did."
Camper says he's firm in his commitment to the Gamecocks and he won't visit other programs. Camper, the state of Virginia's No. 26 overall player, is actually back on campus this weekend in an unofficial capacity to meet his future teammates.
