Linebacker Sherrod Pittman is out with a leg injury.
Freshman wide receiver Jerad Washington is out with a broken leg.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Shaq Davidson is out due to a torn ligament in his knee.
Performances Worth Noting, Chris Wellbaum
Offense, Deebo Samuel. Samuel finally looked like the receiver he was expected to be. He made tough catches and showed good speed. Samuel finished with career-highs in catches (5) and yards (104) and scored his first career touchdown on a nifty third-quarter catch.Offense, Pharoh Cooper. Cooper did not have his best game as a Gamecock, but he deserves a game ball for not quitting as the offense crumbled around him this season. He registered a pass attempt, rush attempt (and sack) and reception against Clemson. He scored a 57-yard touchdown in the third quarter to move into sixth place in career touchdown receptions at South Carolina. He also finished with 973 yards receiving, the sixth most ever for a Gamecock. He also had the third best season last year.
Defense, Skai Moore. In what could be his final game, Moore was everywhere, just like he always is. He led the Gamecocks in tackles with 13 (11 solo) and forced two fumbles. Moore did not walk with the seniors and maintained after the game he has not made up his mind whether to return for his senior season, but if this was his final game it was a good way to go out.
Defense, T.J. Holloman. Holloman finished with nine tackles and a fumble recovery. He also forced the Artavis Scott fumble that was overturned on review.
Special Teams, Landon Ard. Ard kicked off five times, not counting the onside kick at the end of the game. None were returned. He couldn't have done anything else.
Special Teams, Sean Kelly. Kelly had two shanks. They went for 45 and 47 yards. He also had a 68-yard boot, and three punts downed inside the 20. He averaged 49.8 (we can round up to 50) yards per punt, and none of his kicks were returned.
Special Teams, Elliott Fry. Fry missed a 55-yarder in the first half that he had no business attempting in the first place. He made a 21-yarder at the end of the second quarter and all three of his PATs to conclude one of the best seasons ever for a Gamecock kicker.
Five Key Plays, Chris Wellbaum
Orth throws the interception. The game was tied longer than anyone expected. More surprising? South Carolina had the first scoring opportunity of the game. But Orth forced a ball to Pharoh Cooper, underthrowing him after he got behind triple coverage, and Adrian Baker got the interception at the 11. The turnover cost South Carolina a prime scoring opportunity as well as early momentum.Orth misses Samuel. The first half could be summed up on one play. South Carolina was struggling to move the ball and faced a third-and-6. Deebo Samuel got open, and Orth found him. But Orth, who coudln't hit the broad side of a barn in the first half, airmailed the pass and South Carolina had to punt. Shawn Elliott yelled at Orth on the sidelines, and admitted after the game he thought about benching him. Clemson took advantage of the miss and scored on the ensuing drive to go up 7-0.
The ruling on the field is overturned. Artavis Scott took a jet sweep around the left end and gained 47 yards, but at the end of the run T.J. Holloman stripped the ball and the Gamecocks recovered. The officials reviewed the play and ruled that Scott's elbow was down before the ball came loose. Clemson scored on the next play to go up 21-3. There was no consensus in the press box over whether he was down, suggesting there was not enough evidence to overturn the call. Even Elliott was ambivalent about the correct call, saying he agreed with it, then suggesting he knew ACC officials would overturn the call, but SEC officials would not have.
Skai Moore forces a fumble. Moore forced two fumbles Saturday, and the second was the biggest. Deshaun Watson threw a screen pass to Scott, who was immediately bottled up by a group of Gamecocks. Moore punched the ball free and Holloman fell on it at the Clemson 26-yard line. The Gamecocks converted the turnover into a touchdown to make the score 28-25.
Third down. South Carolina battled back and trailed by only a field goal in the fourth quarter, but it needed a stop. And just like it had all season, the defense gave up a big play on third down. Facing third-and-7 at the South Carolina 33, Clemson lined up with an empty backfield. Watson had plenty of time to throw, and eventually found a hole in South Carolina's coverage. Trevion Thompson made the catch on the sideline for a 24-yard gain to set up Clemson with a first and goal. Clemson went 9 of 13 on third downs, and Thompson's catch might have been the most important conversion.
Extras, Collyn Taylor and Chris Wellbaum
South Carolina wore garnet helmets Saturday for the first time in 17 years. South Carolina wore garnet helmets with the Block C in a white circle from 1983 to 1998 before switching back to the more familiar white helmets with the Block C in 1999, Lou Holtz's first season. The Gamecocks have worn the white helmets with the Block C since then, aside from the tailfeathers helmets two weeks ago and the black helmets in 2004.Scouts from the Miami Dolphins and the NFL were in attendance.
Bowl representatives from Florida Citrus Sports, The NFLPA Bowl and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl were at the game.
National media from Sporting News, USA Today, Yahoo! Sports Radio and ESPN were at the game.
Captains for the game were Skai Moore, Landon Ard, Brandon Shell and Mike Matulis. Three of the four were honored on Senior Day. Moore was not.
Former Gamecock running back Marcus Lattimore led the "GAME-COCKS" chant before the game.
Announced attendance was 81,409.
In the second quarter, a highlight reel of the Gamecocks five-straight wins over Clemson was shown on the Beast Board.
After the game, Shawn Elliott came up to his team with tears in his eyes and told them to run over to the fans and sing the alma mater. He also hugged Lorenzo Ward before the song started.
Students would throw towels at Clemson players if they scored.
Former Gamecock wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was on the field for the game. He was greeting Clemson players he knew after the game.
The 69 points scored were the most combined points in a Carolina-Clemson game since 2003 when the teams combined for 80 in a 63-17 Clemson win.
South Carolina's 32 points was the most it has scored all season and the most given up by Clemson.
At halftime, both team's bands performed honoring the victims of the June shooting at the Emanuel AME church in Charleston. The bands spelled out "SC Strong," had a moment of silence for all nine killed and played "Amazing Grace."
The band continued their Taylor Swift obsession and played the pop star's "Bad Blood" before the game and "Shake it Off" during the game.
South Carolina won the toss and elected to receive. The game got off to a poor start when the South Carolina kick return team lined up on the wrong end of the field.
