Irmo running back 'felt like a Gamecock' on visit

Word is starting to get out about class of 2019 running back Kendrell Flowers and the belief is it's only a matter of time before the Irmo (S.C.) standout lands his first offer.

South Carolina running backs coach Bobby Bentley has jumped on the 6-foot-1, 190-pounders recruitment early and Flowers was on the Carolina campus Wednesday afternoon for a tour.

"When we first got there they took us around, me and Trajan (Jeffcoat), we saw the weight room first and their weight room was amazing," Flowers said. "I loved very part of it. They have a new one that's about to be built, so I can't wait to see that one as well. I was just surprised that I could connect with their coaches as well as I did, because I feel like I can be myself around them. I don't have to be anxious or nervous and we can just talk even if it's not about football. That was a big experience for me. Their locker rooms are huge and that was a good part too, because that's when I put on the jersey. I felt like a Gamecock."

Bentley, who is handling Flowers recruitment, has made an early impression.

"Coach Bentley is a amazing," Flowers said. "I love the way that he coaches. We went over some of the stuff that makes a complete running back. Just to know that I will be getting coached by him Saturday at the camp, that's a huge factor. I'm ready to work with him. He's just a great guy overall. It's more than just football when I talked to him, so that's always good. I can always call or text him and talk about anything."

Could an offer come from the Gamecocks Saturday?

"They haven't discusses that with me, but I'm just going to the camp to show them my ability and show them what I'm capable of and hopefully I can pick up that offer then," Flowers said.

It should be a busy summer as he plans to camp at Clemson on June 7 as well as camp stops at North Carolina, N.C. State and Georgia and possibly Purdue and Georgia State.

"I'm just looking for the school that can fit me athletically and academically," Flowers said. "I want to go to a school that has a good education in mathematics, because that's what I want to major in, so that's a huge factor with. And my connection with the coaches as well. Like I was saying with South Carolina and Coach Bentley, I feel like I can be myself with him. And just somewhere close, where my mom can see me play."
