South Carolina picked up their 25th verbal commitment of the 2011 recruiting class on Monday when St. Matthews (SC) Calhoun County athlete Shamier Jeffery made his pledge to the Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder told GamecockCentral.com that the timing seemed right for him to end the process.
"Me and Coach (Walter) Wilson (Calhoun County head coach) were talking about the situation. Schools are filling up with commitments so I just called Coach (Shane) Beamer."
The Gamecock assistant coach, who also recruited Shamier's brother, sophomore wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to USC, was happy to hear the news.
"He was proud of me," he said. "I told him I was sure. He let me talk to Coach (Steve) Spurrier, Jr. and Coach (Steve) Spurrier."
Jeffery also talked about what position he would likely play when he arrived in Columbia.
"Coach Spurrier, Jr. said congratulations," he said. "He asked what I was going to play wide receiver and he said he was glad to hear that. I think they're going to try me at quarterback too, but I'll probably play wide receiver."
A few other schools offered Jeffery during the recruiting process, but the Gamecocks were most steady in their pursuit.
"They were coming at me more than other schools," the senior said. "I really only think I had offers from Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech maybe. They didn't come at me like South Carolina. I haven't really talked to those other ones."
Jeffery heard from his brother, a Biletnikoff Award finalist in his second year at USC.
"He texted me and said 'you're a Gamecock huh?'," Shamier said. "I'm very proud to play with my brother. It wasn't a big deal, though. I'm going to give my best performance, and he's going to give his. We already know what we're going to do."
Jeffery added that he would make his official visit to USC sometime in January.
