Johnson enjoys trip to Columbia

Cordova (SC) Edisto F Brice Johnson is one of the top prospects in state of South Carolina for the class of 2012.
The 6-foot-9, 200-pounder and his father were in town Saturday for a visit to South Carolina. They had the opportunity to tour campus and talk with the basketball coaches, but the main attraction was the football game on Saturday night.

"Furman didn't put up much of a fight," he said I got to hang out with Coach Mike (Boynton) and Coach (Orlando) Early, so I had a good time. It was fun."
The Palmetto State junior likes the coaching staff at South Carolina, and that's one of the reasons Johnson has early interest in the university.
"Coach Mike is a cool guy," Johnson said. "He always tells you what you want to hear. Coach Early is cool too, but I don't know him as much. "He and Coach (Darrin) Horn came by my school last week and talked to my coaches."
While on campus, Johnson had the chance to check out a few of the basketball facilities, which he came away impressed with after taking a look.
"The coaches took us by the locker room and to the practice facility," he said. "It was real nice. I got to meet (USC freshman) R.J. Slawson while I was there."
This was Johnson's second college visit this fall, having taken a trip to Georgia Tech over Labor Day weekend.
Johnson has verbal offers from South Carolina, Clemson and Georgia Southern. Several other schools including Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Marquette, Florida, Virginia Tech, and UNC Charlotte are expressing interest.
The big man hopes to take more visits, but is unsure what his schedule will allow him to do in the coming weeks.
"I don't know my plans yet," he said. "I might not have much time (to take anymore visits). If I do I want to check out Virginia Tech and Ohio State. I might get back to South Carolina again for another game or I'll probably come up for some basketball games later on."
As far as his leader board, Johnson has backed off naming any favorites.
"I don't have a top five anymore. Everyone is pretty much even for me. South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Ohio State are showing me the most interest."
