The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder named South Carolina as his leader following a visit to the Gamecock Showcase in the summer. North Carolina and Virginia Tech challenged, but USC was back on top after a Gamecock Pool Bash trip in July. Leota last visited Columbia last weekend for USC's matchup with Kentucky.
"This decision was very hard," Leota said. "Virginia Tech was also a great school, but I felt like I was at home when I was down in South Carolina. I loved it down there. I loved the vibe. Coach Shawn Elliott was great throughout this process recruiting me. Coach Steve Spurrier was an awesome guy to meet."
For the Gamecock staff, Deke Adams was the lead recruiter with involvement from Elliott, Carolina's offensive line coach.
Leota added that commitments Will Putnam and Brandon McIlwain also helped recruit him hard.
Leota, who believes his explosiveness is one of his greatest strengths, has a couple of primary goals for his time at South Carolina.
"As a team, I would love to accomplish winning a national championship in the SEC," Leota said. "I would also like to accomplish getting a degree."
Boston College, East Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest also extended offers to Leota during the recruiting process.
