Miami pass-rusher camps Monday, returning again today

Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic class of 2019 defensive end Mikel Jones participated at South Carolina's camp Monday, but left the workout with some unfinished business.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound pass-rusher, who already holds offers from Clemson, Temple and Southern University, is camping at South Carolina again on Tuesday with hopes of earning an offer, at the suggestion of defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.

"T-Rob invited me back to work out (Tuesday) in front of Coach Muschamp and he wants to see me work with the outside linebackers coach," Jones said. "He wants to keep in touch with me."

Jones has enjoyed his interactions with Robinson, who is recruiting him.

"I love his intensity and the fact that's he is from south Florida, just like me," Jones said. "And I feel he will team up with Muschamp and conduct a powerhouse."

Jones took a tour of the South Carolina campus Monday and got a better overall feel for the program.

"I love the atmosphere, the love of the town for the team, the weight room coach sold me," Jones said. "And also the coaches seem to have a great track record of developing players, I love it. And I have family an hour away so that's a plus."

Jones says if the Gamecocks offer, they'll definitely be in the mix.

"I want to get familiar with Columbia and experience a game this season," he says.
