Kyle Krantz's new role defined

South Carolina defensive analyst Kyle Krantz has been promoted to fill the school's 10th on-field assistant coach position.

Krantz will serve as the special teams assistant and will coach the nickel and SAM linebacker positions.

"Kyle has been with me for the past five years and thinks like we do," Muschamp said. "He has a coordinator's mentality and is an outstanding young coach."

The contract was officially approved on Friday morning by the Board of Trustees during a 10:00 a.m.

Krantz has served in his current position for both of Muschamp's two years in Columbia after previously working with Muschamp and Travaris Robinson in the same role at Auburn in 2015.

Krantz is a 2009 graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a degree where he began his career as a student assistant for the defense from 2007-08 before becoming the linebackers coach at his alma mater from 2009-10.

Krantz worked as an offensive quality control volunteer at Northwestern during the summer of 2011 then joined the Kentucky staff as a graduate assistnat just prior to the start of the 2011 season.

After two seasons in Lexington, Krantz spent the next two years at Florida under Muschamp. Krantz was placed in charge of quality control for the offense in 2013, working primarily with the wide receivers, and for the defense in 2014, working with the defensive backs.

Schools were previously allowed just nine on-field position coaches, but new legislation passed by the NCAA allows for a tenth coach beginning on Jan. 9.
