Not one of the eight teams granted a national seed, the Gamecocks (42-16) must navigate through a Columbia Regional that also includes Maryland, Old Dominion, and Campbell to reach the Super Regional stage of the tournament.
Their likely opponent, should they advance to the Super Regional, is Virginia, which earned a No. 3 national seed.
The Gamecocks will square off against Campbell at 7 p.m. Friday.
