The 6-foot-1, 212-pounder entered the preseason behind starter Dylan Thompson as well as backups Connor Mitch and Perry Orth on the quarterback depth chart.
In an effort to get more practice repetitions, USC's coaching staff also had Nosovitch spend some practice time at tight end. He did not receive reps at either position on Wednesday, the day that he made the decision to transfer from USC.
However, Steve Spurrier was not going to give up on the athletic player's future with the Gamecocks.
"Brendan Nosovitch has the day off to ponder his decision whether he wants to transfer or stay," Spurrier told the media on Thursday after practice.
After taking that day off, Nosovitch and Spurrier spoke on the telephone on Thursday afternoon, according to sources. That conversation was followed by a meeting on Friday in which both parties agreed to give Nosovitch more time to think about his situation. During that meeting, the decision was also made for Nosovitch to practice with the team during Friday morning's session. Nosovitch also participated in the team's scrimmage on Saturday.
On Sunday, sources told GamecockCentral.com that Nosovitch made the decision to ultimately remain with the Gamecock football team.
The Allentown, Pa., native played in two games last season for the Gamecocks, scoring a touchdown on a seven-yard run against Arkansas and completing both of his passes against Coastal Carolina for a total of 13 yards.
The potential for more playing time was pivotal in Nosovitch's original decision. While it's not yet clear how his time will be split or what his updated role with the team will be, Spurrier has said that he could play some shotgun quarterback, wide receiver, or tight end.
"He's a heckuva athlete that can really play a lot of positions," Spurrier said last Thursday.
