Wednesday Quick-hitters:

-- Will Muschamp says that JUCO OL signee Akeem Cooperwood, the lone signee that the staff was waiting to be ruled academically eligible, will not be in the Gamecocks class.

-- Muschamp says it was a typical second practice. He reiterated that football is played in pads, not in shorts. Some guys battled cramps today and they need to do a better job of eating and drinking before practice.

-- Lorenzo Nunez has worked primarily at wide receiver the first two practices, but Muschamp reiterated that he will have plays at quarterback too. Co-offensive coordinator Kurt Roper said that Nunez has taken to receiver well.

-- Muschamp says the two biggest stats are turnovers and explosive plays.

-- Muschamp singled out D.J. Wonnum and Kiel Pollard as two freshmen who have impressed him. Both guys are working with the veteran group.

-- Muschamp said that he's looking for more consistency from running back David Williams and that it's tiring for coaches "when you have to challenge a guy every single day at practice and every meeting." Muschamp says he asked Williams what he's accomplished since he's been at USC.

Roper says they've moved a lot of guys around in practice at RB, but you have to at that position in practice. A.J. Turner, Rod Talley and Bear Paulk have all rotated in.

-- Muschamp has been happy with the way the offensive line has competed and believes they should be the strength of the offense.

-- Perry Orth says that he worked with the first team offense yesterday and Brandon McIlwain worked with the first team today at QB. Roper has been happy with his quarterbacks in the first two days.

-- Roper says you'd like to have 6-7 WRs ready to play to rotate, but have had seasons where played mainly 3. Just depends who is ready.

-- Hayden Hurst says the tight ends are more involved in the offense this year. Hurst says he's never seen Orth so focused.

-- Jamari Smith is working with the first team at slot while Matrick Belton is the backup there.
